Prep at Maleny State School
Prep Year has been offered at Maleny State School since it was a trial school in 2004. Educators are trained in The Early Years Curriculum and the National Curriculum Guidelines and are implementing these guidelin in their classrooms. It is a full-time program and children attend from Monday to Friday during normal school hours, from 8.50am to 2.50pm.
Children must turn 5 by 30th June in the year they start Prep. The Kindy Calculator (bottom of the page) is available to confirm ages for when children can start in Kindy, Prep and Year 1.
A key feature of Prep is that it makes connections between school and children’s experiences at home, kindy or daycare. Prep is integrated fully into the rest of the school. Classrooms and other facilities are located in the school grounds.
Prep provides the foundation for your child’s success at school by developing:
A positive approach to learning
Independence and confidence
Thinking and problem-solving
Language skills
Early literacy skills
Physical abilities, including gross and fine motor skills

Transition to Prep Days*
We will be holding a series of Transition to Prep days to ease the children’s transition from home, kindy and daycare to Prep. Children are invited to attend any or all of these days with an adult. These transition mornings will provide you with an opportunity to visit the Prep classrooms and playground and meet the friendly staff. Please bring a hat. These days will be held on:
Wednesday 1 November - 9.00am – 10.00am
Wednesday 8 November - 9.00am – 10.00am
Wednesday 15 November - 9.00am – 10.00am
*Only for children who have completed and submitted enrolment forms to the Maleny State School office.
