For the first time Maleny State School and The Ananda Marga River School will come together to celebrate Harmony Day this year. This day is celebrated all over Australia and is based on the theme that “We All Belong.” The students from both schools will be involved in a number ofactivities including creating artwork for an exhibition in the town library. This will be on display for the whole month of April. Their piece of work must reflect an important message based on inclusion or celebratingcultural diversity.
Two classes from both schools will also be spending time together working with Stephanie Aridge one of the singers from the Sweet Chilli Choir who has kindly volunteered her time to teach the students three songs. On the 19th March the students will then meet together in the main street of Maleny outside the IGA at 12:00 and the Community Centre to present their songs to the community. The performance will conclude by 12:50. Parents are welcome to attend and support.
In addition to this the students will also be making peace beads from recycled paper to create two Harmony bracelets, one to keep and one to give to someone as a way of celebrating inclusion. This younger generation has a growing desire to be part of something positive which gives us great hope for the future.
