One of our school's focus is reading... please make it yours at home as well!
Reading is the key for students to unlock the doors to each key learning area within the Australian Curriculum. The quicker students learn to read the more doors that open for them not just in terms of the school curriculum but within their everyday interaction with the world around them. I see reading as an essential skill that gives students access to unlimited sources of information. Without this access experiences and opportunities can be limited for students. It is for this reason that as a school we are place such an emphasis on how we teach reading to students. All staff have been participating in professional development around the teaching of reading using Pearson’s Gradual Release Model. Parents who model positive reading behaviours at home and assist students to practice their reading decoding and comprehension skills do make a difference.
